Allusion 1- Gulliver's Travels
"Bessie asked if I would have a book: the word book acted as a transient stimulus, and I begged her to fetch Gulliver's Travels from the library. This book I had again and again perused with delight." (20)
The fantasy in the book Gulliver's Travels, is what Jane states that she enjoyed the most when she read the book as a child. She wanted to be able to journey away to a new land and have a new and exciting life like Gulliver in the story. This book was written by Jonathan Swift in 1726. Gulliver, like Jane, becomes accustomed to new towns, and groups of people. She and Gulliver both have to abandon their companions and acquaintances in the town due to some sort of dramatic situation. Lastly, like Gulliver, Jane ventures to new jobs and places when she became tired of her previous employment opportunities.

Great connection! Another similarity between Jane and Gulliver is how they both were mistreated in certain areas they went to.
